"My house shall be a house of prayer for all peoples."
Ahavat ger ("Welcoming the Stranger") is one of the most important tenets in Reform Judaism. One of our major goals is to develop programs and a culture which assure traditional Jewish families, interfaith families, Jews-by-Choice, and singles an environment of welcome and the opportunity to fully participate in our congregation.
Please check our schedule of services on our Shabbat/Calendar page and come see what we offer. The warmth and spirituality of our Friday evening services are unparalleled in this area. During the social hour after services we welcome the Sabbath with wine, challah and a delicious assortment of desserts. You will be able to meet and chat with our members and consider becoming a member of a young, energetic organization that will be growing along with the increasing Jewish population of Southern Ocean County.
Our services are held at 7:30 PM at the Lutheran Church, 333 North Main St., (Route 9), Manahawkin, NJ.
Congregation Sha'arey Ha-Yam, "Gates of the Sea", has our own rabbi presiding over services accompanied by an organist and clarinetist, our own Hebrew School, the enjoyment of several Shabbat dinners during the course of the year, and the celebration of major holidays as a congregation. Our membership represents a cross section of age and religious philosophies. Education for Bar/Bat Mitzvah is available. As a congregation, under the leadership of Rabbi Kim Geringer, new approaches to lifelong Jewish education are discussed including the performance of gimilut chasadim (acts of loving-kindness) on a continuing basis. Congregation Sha'arey Ha-Yam has its own website and we invite you to "like" us on Facebook where you may observe our activities and celebrations.
We are now reaching out to all who are not yet affiliated and are searching for a spiritual home. We welcome you to attend our ser vices; there is a place for you in our congregation.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
